Signing up for Races

We try to spend the fall and gloomy winter seasons outdoors to keep our spirits high. We still miss the bright Arizona sun that was present year-round although we love it here in our central Cali home. :) Most races offer great incentives to participate including a healthy breakfast or lunch, tech shirts and collector medal. I'm hoping to try this trail run in Hollywood's Historic Griffith Park in November because it's shortly after a half-marathon race and I want to do this walker-friendly event to loosen up and get back in the game. I think my kids will enjoy coming up with us to experience Hollywood.

This morning's Runner's World quote was inspiring: "Running has opened up so many adventures for me, not just in the trails I run or new routes, but also in the friendships I've made and the confidence it has given me. - Meleah Shank, runner and spinning instructor

Changing the Time of Day

With the changing seasons, I've moved my runs from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. After Doug comes home from school, we take Zoe and the stroller and do a quick 3miles on the bike path near our house. I'm shocked at how difficult these sessions are. It seems like my body has to adjust to the time change, but I'm grateful for the perfect weather we are having in central Calif. right now and, as always, I'm happy just to be physically able to run.

I hope everyone enjoys the season changes and adjusts well to the upcoming time change for daylight savings.

"Running is a big question makr that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?' " - Peter Maher

"Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first."  ~Author Unknown

Where I'm at, running is really about the process and not how fast I run. I need the alone time, and to clear the noise of the day from my head.

VALLEY ACHIEVEMENT CENTER 10 K

Doug and I ran in the VAC fundraiser run this past Saturday. He pushed Zoe in the stroller and beat me by at least three minutes:) I ran a satisfying 1:01 with a minor shin splint. I'm looking forward to running/walking in the Women's Marathon in Phoenix while I recover from some injuries due to weight gain and poor training. Then its time to get ready for the Tinkerbell half-marathon in Anaheim in late January.
